Bass Tournament Results

JOE DWYER of Amarillo took top honors and $600 at the August 16 FUN FISHING Tournament at Lake Greenbelt. Fishing in Kris Boseley’s Skeeter Boat, Joe caught three largemouths that tipped the scales at 9.55 lbs. Catching nearly 10 pounds with a three-bass limit in three hours isn’t easy.
Joe bested the other 60 anglers and was all smiles.
Joe started the tournament slow fishing the deep side of the moss with a weighed watermelon green Senko , and as the sunlight faded, a green/cream Ribbit frog provided the winning four pound bass.

Second place was worth $300 to Borger’s RODNEY SWEET with three bass that tipped the scales at 8.73 lbs. Sweet used his trusty black/Blue jig in 12-18 feet and also fished the outside edge the moss beds.

Third place and $120 went to RONNIE COBURN of Amarillo with three that weighed 7.86 lbs. His lures were a green pumpkin PowerWorm in 15 feet of water, and his 41/2 -pound smallmouth devoured a black/chrome Rat-L-Trap in 2 1/2 of water during the last 15 minutes of the tournament.. It’s a skill deal… (laf) … to catch a huge smallie when fishing for largemouth bass.

Others in the top Ten include LORNE McBrayer of Borger with 7.44 lbs. ona 4 inch pumpkinseed PoweWorm, Canadian’s RONNIE HILL used a Yamamoto purple Creature in 12-18 feet to catch three @ 5.79 lbs., BRADY RUSSELL of Amarillo fished the deeper mosss with a bl/bl jig to catch 5.12 lbs., Dennis Beilue of Dumas fished 12-18 deep moss with a green lizard and 5.12 lbs., Borger’s favorite OU fan DONDI BRAME ‘fluked’ a 3-bass limit at 4.71 lbs., and CLINTON GRANGE of White Deer used a white Spro Frog lure to catch 4.29 lbs.,

Tenth place was worth $60 to RICHARD “lucky” Beilue of Dumas with 4.10 lbs. Richard, a perennial ProStaff member, fished the deep moss with a Carolina rigged lizard., AND then won the $50 Luck-of-the-draw.

Next Fun Tournament at Greenbelt is Saturday, September 8 starting at 7:00 a.m.

Congratulations to LARRY BYRD of Borger for winning his 2nd Fun Tournament of 2007 at Lake Greenbelt. His winning 3-bass weight on July 26 totaled 6.61 lbs., and he used a 4-inch pumpkin Powerworm to best the field of 54 anglers. Enjoy your $540.

2nd place and $270 went to Amarillo's TODD TOWN with three that tipped the scales at 6.12 lbs. His lures include a watermelon tube, lizard, and a black poppper. 3rd place was worth $108 to our 2007 Angler of the year, RICHARD BELOTT with three that weighed 5.86 lbs. His lure was a weightless watermelon Fluke.
All the top anglers were fishing the moss and the bigger bas were on the outside edges in 8 to 15 feet of water. Smaller baits are the best during these dog days of summer on our local lakes.

The August 9th Fun Fishing Tournament was canceled due to lightning, 50 mph winds and rain by the buckets.

March 24 Lake Alan Henry

After several top ten finishes, Plainview's JEFF ERPELDING set the hook on the winning combination of bass at this region's (and argueably in all of Texas) best BIG bass lake with a three-bass limit that weighed 17.77 lbs. Jeff's big bass tipped the scales at 9 pounds and he was catching em on a Berkley 7 inch motor oil PowerWorm and a watermelon brush hog. His 9 pounder came as he was swimming his PowerWorm between two flooded brush piles in 3 to 5 feet of water.
Congratulations Jeff and enjoy your $680 first place prize money.

Second place and $340 went into the pocket of Borger's J.L. Chatwell with a 3-bass limit that weighed 13.33 lbs. JL fished the mud line in Rock Creek and used a white Gitzit on a rocky ledge with flooded timber in about 10.

Third place was worth $136 to PHILLIP BAILEY of Anson with 3 keepers at 13.15 lbs.,and fourth place went to NATHAN (bl/bl jig) KING of Lubbock with 3 bass at 12.11 lbs.

Other anglers in the money and the top ten included -- DONNIE COMBS of Lubbock used a white fluke in 10 feet for 3 bass limit at 11.42 lbs., Pampa's JEFF CLOUD bed fished a black/blue jig w/white grubtail for 3 bass at 10.34 lbs., JOSH HOWELL of Amarillo topwatered a Spittin Image for 3 at 10.30 lbs., RICHARD BELOTT of Amarillo used a bl/bl jig in 10 feet for 3 bass at 9.90 lbs., Amarillo's RYAN HIGGINS crainbaited some shallow bass (3 feet) for 3 keepers at 9.43 lbs., and Plainview's PAUL McCARTY (bluefleck PowerWorm in 4-10 feet) cleverly pocketed 10th place money of $68 for his three keeps at 8.50 lbs.

The bass are trying to spawn, but high muddy water and cold nights is messing with their urge to get and stay shallow.
